Unplug the power cord. Turn the CD player’s power button off. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

    • 2). Check the fuse. The fuse on a Bose 6-CD player is located on the back panel. Turn the black fuse cap counterclockwise. Remove the fuse and check the metal strip within the fuse’s glass housing. If the strip is broken, do no replace the fuse until the electronics are checked.

    • 3). Remove the casing. Most Bose 6-CD players have a metal casing held in place by four screws. These screws are located on the sides of the casing. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws. Place the screws in a plastic bag to avoid losing them. Gently lift the casing off the CD player.

Clean the CD player’s interior. Dust and debris can cover up potential problems. Use compressed air, sold in aerosol form, to clean out the player’s interior. Hold the spray can’s nozzle 3 inches above the interior. Push down on the nozzle, moving it left to right until the interior is clean.

    • 5). Inspect the wiring. Look for damage, especially where the power cord connects to the player’s circuit board. Problems include crimped or broken wires and damaged shielding.

    • 6). Repair any damaged wiring. The shielding that surrounds the wiring protects it from coming in contact with metal parts which cause shorts. Wrap any damaged shielding with electrical tape. For broken wires, use wire strippers to remove ¼-inch of shielding. Twist the stripped wire together. Place a wire nut on the top of the twisted wires and secure it by turning the nut clockwise.

    • 7). Check the belts. Over time, the belts that power the CD player’s motor system stretch. Gently grasp the belt. If it feels loose, replace it.

Check the mechanical components. The mechanical parts within a Bose CD player are held in place with small screws. With continual use, the mounting screws that keep the mechanisms aligned with one another loosen. Check all mounting screws within the player. If any screws are loose, tighten them with a Phillips screwdriver.

    • 9). Reattach the CD player’s casing. Remove the screws from the plastic bag. Place the casing back onto the CD player. Place the screws in their mounting holes and tighten them with a Phillips screwdriver.
