How to Change a Video Card for a Dell Laptop
- 1). Turn off your laptop computer, and make sure it is unplugged from any electrical outlet. Remove the battery by turning the laptop upside down and moving the prongs toward the center of the computer. The battery will pop right out.
- 2). Turn the laptop over, and open the screen so it is laying flat in the opposite direction of the keyboard.
- 3). Remove the front bezel. This is the plastic piece that surrounds the keyboard. You can pry it loose by inserting a flat-head screwdriver into one of the grooves on the side of the laptop. Pull up gently.
- 4). Remove the plastic connector holding the bezel in place; it may be white or black in color. A gentle tug will free the bezel from the connector.
- 5). Unscrew the two or three screws holding the keyboard in place using a Phillips screwdriver. They are located on the top right and left corners of the keyboard and in the bottom center.
- 6). Pull the keyboard toward you to partially lift it out of the laptop. Don't pull too hard as you don't want to disconnect any wires. You do not have to disconnect the keyboard. It just needs to be moved out of the way so you can access the video card.
- 7). Remove the LCD connector by gently pulling on the tag.
- 8). Unscrew the four screws holding the video card in place. They are screwed into the green board. You should be able to lift the video card out of the laptop once the screws are removed.
- 9). Place a new video card in the laptop in the same position the old video card was in, and replace the four screws.
