How to Change a Windows XP Boot Screen
- 1). Turn off the boot screen. This will give you a completely blank screen while the computer boots up. To turn off the screen, go to the "Start" menu and click on "Run." In the window that comes up, type "MSCONFIG" and click "Enter." This will bring up the "System Configuration" window. Click on the "Boot" tab and put a check in the box beside "No GUI boot." Click "OK."
- 2). Download BootSkin if you prefer to replace the boot image. BootSkin is an application that makes changing the boot screen in XP easy. It has its own library of boot images, and when you select a new image from BootSkin, it automatically overrides your computer's defaults.
- 3). Open Bootskin. Bootskin will save to your computer under the folder "WinCustomize." When you located the Bootskin icon, double-click to open the program.
- 4). Select one of Bootskin's boot skin options. There are several skins to choose from, including "Time Warp" and "Toon Boot." Click "Preview" to see what the skins look like before making your final selection.
- 5). Click "Apply." The new skin will automatically replace your old boot screen. The next time you reboot your computer, your new skinned boot screen will appear during start-up.
