Connect Computers Using Cables and Ethernet Cards

Do you have more than one computer in your home? Perhaps you have a work computer and a gaming pc, and you have heard about connecting computers together so that the two can share files, data or even play games on the network.
There is a very easy way to do this which is both very reliable and cost effective.
This can be done by using Ethernet cards, cables and a router.
We will explain how to create a Local Area Network within your home using cables and Ethernet cards.
Before you begin, you will need to make sure you have the proper hardware ready to create your home network.
You will need a router, cables and Ethernet cards.
However, most computers these days will come with a built in Ethernet card built into the motherboard or already have the card installed, if you are not sure just should check your computer manual.
You will also need cables, as when you are connecting computers via a network, each computer will have to be able to communicate with each other.
Most likely you will need a cross-over cable for this.
Once you are sure the hardware is set up correctly, you must now setup the network within Windows on each computer.
Setting up the LAN will be basically the same as when you set up your internet connection.
Within each computer go to your Control Panel then go to "Network Setup Wizard".
Follow all steps you are prompted to do; you should be guided through the steps which are needed to setup the Local Area Network.
If you are unsure of what exactly to do, you can read the "checklist for creating a network" which should help you when trying to get the network ready.
You must do this for both connecting computers.
Once you have followed these steps and have rebooted your computers, log onto Windows and try both to see if the tasks you just performed did indeed work properly.
Try to share a file between the two connected pcs, share music, etc.
If you are able to share the files or music then you have succeeded in creating a small network with two connecting computers.
It is highly recommended that you go with this most widely used Ethernet solution, which is proven to be very reliable and offers a much higher performance.
If you wish to add more connecting computers to this network you will need to do additional tasks and purchase a hub or router.
