How to Make a Hard Disk Boot
- 1). Switch on your computer and watch while words will start appearing on the screen. A sentence should pop up, saying, "Press key (so-and-so) to enter BIOS". Press those keys.
- 2). Make sure your display has changed and now says, "BIOS". BIOS, or basic input output system, is a control hub for your computer. It lets you do basic functions with your computer, including changing the booting device priority,
- 3). Find a tab that says "Boot Device Priority" or something similar. You should see a numbered list of devices, including CD-ROM, USB or hard disk. Highlight the hard disk and click "Enter". Make sure the hard disk in the number 1 device for booting.
Your motherboard, together with the CPU, will check whether the connected drives can boot. It can check the hard disk drive first. If there is not operating system installed, it proceeds to check the device with a lower priority (e.g., a CD-ROM). - 4). Enter the button in the BIOS menu that reads somethings like "Exit the BIOS and save the Changes." Reboot your computer, and your hard drive will be the first one to boot.
