How to Repair DLL Errors on Windows 98

    • 1). Browse to the Windows 98 "System" folder (usually C:\Windows\System on a typical installation) using Windows Explorer.

    • 2). Locate the DLL file that is causing errors. Right-click on the file and choose to rename it. Name the file from "<filename>.dll" to "<filename>.bak" in the window. Do not delete the file in case you need to restore it if the repair process fails.

    • 3). Locate a copy of the DLL that is causing problems in the "System" folder of a Windows 98 system that is not experiencing errors. Copy the file from the working computer's "System" folder into the "System" folder on the computer that is experiencing errors.

    • 4). Press "Start" and choose "Run." Type "cmd" and click "OK."

    • 5). Type the command "cd C:\Windows\System" (or the path to your system folder if it is not the default) and push "Enter." Input the command "Regsvr32 <filename>.dll" where <filename> is the name of the DLL you copied to the system. Hit "Enter" again.

    • 6). Type "exit" and press "Enter" to close the command prompt. Restart the system.
