How to Read the Oil Dipstick in a Nissan Sentra
- 1). Park your Nissan Sentra on a level surface and wait a few minutes but not too long. You want to avoid waiting too long after the engine is shut off because the oil needs to be warm for accurate readings.
- 2). Pop your hood open with the release latch and locate your oil dipstick. It's on the driver's side close to the center of the engine. It has a looped handle making it easy to grab and it's located near the back of the engine.
- 3). Loop your finger through the handle at the top and gently pull the Nissan Sentra dipstick out of its sheath. Use a rag or tissue to wipe it clean.
- 4). Observe the "X" marks on the dipstick. These mark the safety zone for the safe running of your engine.
- 5). Slip the dipstick back into the sheath and pull it out immediately to get a clear reading. Check the oil level on the dipstick without wiping it off.
- 6). Drain some oil out if the oil reads over the top marking on the dipstick. The mark should be within the safe range on the dipstick. If it is at or below the bottom safe marks, add oil until the level lies between the safe marks.
