How to Lubricate My Abu Garcia Reel
- 1). Open the side of the reel opposite the handle to access the spool. Remove the three, knurled screws to pull the side from a round, baitcast reel. Slide the side of the body upward to access the spool on low-profile reels.
- 2). Pull the spool from the reel and set aside. Apply grease to gears and add a drop of oil at the point where the spool seats into the reel body. Place the spool back on the reel body. Securely close or attach the side of the reel.
- 3). Apply one or two drops of oil to the line guide on the front of the reel. Place a drop of oil on the guide bar.
- 4). Remove the retaining cap in the center of the reel handle using the small, slotted screwdriver. Apply a drop of oil to the center of the handle. Add another drop to the base of the handle at the star drag where it contacts the reel body. Place the retaining cap back on the handle.
- 5). Apply oil to the grips of the handle. Place a drop of oil on the front and back of the handle where the grip rotates.
- 6). Place one drop of oil at the base of the line-tension knob and the brake-adjustment point.
- 1). Turn the drag-adjustment knob on the front of the spool counterclockwise; loosen and remove. Pull the spool off the spindle and set aside.
- 2). Apply a drop of oil to the spindle shaft. Place the spool back on the spindle shaft. Secure it in place with the drag-adjustment knob.
- 3). Oil the pivot points on either end of the bail wire along with the bail-trip mechanism. Apply a drop of oil to the line roller.
- 4). Remove the handle of the reel by loosening the retaining screw on the opposite side. Pull the handle straight out and away from the reel body. Apply grease to the length of the handle that mounts inside the reel body. Secure the handle back in place.
- 5). Apply oil to the grip of the reel handle at the point where it rotates. Place a drop of oil on the front and back side of the grip. Place a drop of oil at the base of the handle where it is designed to pivot and fold for travel and storage.
