Canadian fishing lodges are categorized by their method of access: drive-to, boat-in or fly-in. Boat-in lodges generally provide a parking area for guests to leave their vehicles so they can be transported to the establishment in the lodge's boat, or patrons may be allowed to come in their own boats. Once there, visiting fishermen will find that the lodge offers either "American plan" or housekeeping accommodations. All meals and daily maid service are part of the American plan. Housekeeping plans force guests to rough it. - This 50-year-old lodge is located on a private island in the center of the Lake of the Woods. Walleye, lake trout, muskie, northern pike and bass abound here. Fishermen can set out on their own or hire one of the professional guides that are available. Accommodations are on the American plan. Besides fishing, guests can watch satellite television, play games in the lounge, walk around the wooded grounds or rent a kayak to experience the call of loons on the lake in the early evening.
- Visitors to Fox's Den Lodge have a choice of American plan, modified American plan or housekeeping accommodations. The remote camp, four hours north of Sault Sainte Marie, is accessible only by taxi boat or a 15-minute scenic railroad ride. Located on Dog Lake, part of a chain of lakes extending north from Lake Superior, lodge guests catch walleye, northern pike, lake trout, perch and smallmouth bass. Native American tribes once used the lake to transport furs to trading posts in the area. Earlier settlers drew pictographs that can still be seen on rocks around the lake.
- Situated at the north end of Woman Lake in northwestern Ontario, this secluded fishing camp has five housekeeping cabins. Fishing for walleye, lake trout and northern pike is best just before the sun goes down. Trophy fish have been caught throughout the peak season, May to October. The lodge provides a fish-cleaning house for the convenience of its fishing guests. Upon arrival, visitors receive a map of the lake, and lodge employees brief them on the latest hot spots for fish and the lures and equipment being used with the most success.
