How to Find Bream Beds

    • 1). Stay close to the shore. Bream typically reside in areas where the water is 2 to 6 feet deep.

    • 2). Look for patches of a lighter color on the bottom of the lake or body of water. These patches will not pop out if you are not looking for them, but bream typically make their nests in small circular patches on the lake beds. If you are searching for them, you will typically notice several small patches of a lighter color than the water floor.

    • 3). Look around protected beaches. Bream prefer the cover of "darkness", and the beaches with overhanging tree limbs or foliage in the water are optimal because of the offer of protection from being spotted.

    • 4). Cast in your baited fishing rod when you think you have found bream beds. If you get any consistent nibbles or bites, you have found the nest. If you don't, then keep searching. Live bait, especially the night crawler earthworms, are preferable to this fish.

    • 5). Remove caught bream from your line with caution. Be careful when taking hold of them. They can be skittish, flip around and fan out their fins, which have sharp, pointed edges that will cut you if you're not careful. The recommended fashion for removing bream from your line is to make a "C" with your hand, and start by placing it over their mouth in accordance with their body shape. Gently slide your hand down the bream, folding their fins back as you slide, until you reach the center of their body, or can retain a good grip on the fish. Holding the fish with one hand, use your other to remove the hook from the mouth.
