Care of Cameos

    • 1). Restrict your cleaning to a gentle wipe with a tissue or a very quick rinse in lukewarm water. Avoid using any form of soap or detergent as these can cause permanent discoloration.

    • 2). Keep your cameo away from intense sources of heat or cold, as sudden changes in temperature can result in splitting.

    • 3). Don't pile other heavy objects on top of a cameo in a crowded jewelry box or drawer. Cameos are somewhat fragile and can easily sustain a hairline crack from a mere glancing impact. Needless to say, a cracked cameo has much less value than a perfect one. It is best to keep cameos in individual boxes packed with cotton wool.

    • 4). Remember not to leave your cameo -- or any other jewelry -- on a garment at the end of the evening, just in case it ends up in a washing machine the next day.
