How to Get a Child Interested in Fishing
- 1). Visit the local fishing ponds and talk to anglers to ensure that there are plenty of fish close to the shore.
- 2). Ask questions about species such as bluegills and crappies. These fish are easy to catch and abundant in most ponds.
- 3). Look for a spot that is easy to access and has a nice, park-like atmosphere with plenty of room to run around, should the children become bored.

- 1). Look at the weather on the morning of the trip. Do not make them go if it is too cold or raining.
- 2). Take along plenty of food and drinks.
- 3). Instruct the children again before allowing them to fish on their own.
- 4). Stand next to your child and continue to instruct as they begin fishing.
- 5). Show them how the bobber behaves when a fish bites. Teach them how to set the hook and how to retrieve the fish.
- 6). Praise them each time set they hook correctly or catch a fish.
- 7). Allow them to touch the fish they catch. Teach them the correct way to handle a fish and then allow them to return the fish safely to the water.
