How to Restore Explorer.exe in XP

    • 1). Press the "Ctrl," "Shift" and "Esc" keys at the same time to start the Task Manager.

    • 2). Click the "File" menu option in the Task Manager's window and select "New Task (Run)." Type "%SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe" in the search field of the new window and press "Enter."

    • 3). Check the "Restore this computer to an earlier point in time" option in the "System Restore" window and click "Next."

    • 4). Select the most recent restore point before the time your explorer.exe disappeared under "On this list, click a restore point" and click "Next."

    • 5). Click "Next" to confirm the selected restore point. Your PC will perform a system restore and restart itself automatically.
