How to Fill Lexmark 24 Cartridges

    • 1). Remove the empty cartridge from the computer and put a strip of tape over the metal contacts on the printer head. Prepare the work area by placing newspaper down on a table or desk to avoid staining from any leaking ink.

    • 2). Peel back the label on the cartridge and locate the holes for refilling. Put on your rubber gloves to avoid getting any ink on your hands. Fill your needle with magenta ink first and insert the needle into the hole in the upper left of the cartridge. Insert the needle to about the halfway point and begin injecting ink. Fill the chamber slowly until you see the ink bubbling out the top. Pull the needle out and set it aside. Wipe away any excess ink on the top of the cartridge before filling the next chamber.

    • 3). Repeat the filling process for the other two chambers. The yellow chamber is accessed through the bottom-left hole. The cyan chamber can be filled through the bottom-right hole. Wipe the cartridge after each chamber is filled. Replace the label and remove the tape.

    • 4). Dab the contacts with some paper towels before you replace the cartridge in the printer. The ink should blot the paper. If it doesn't, you may need to put a few drops of water on the paper towel and try again. Put the cartridge back in the printer when you get a good blot and print a test page.
