Homemade CPU Fan Adapter

    • 1). Turn off your PC and unplug its power cord from its power supply. Remove the cover of the CPU casing and hold the wires running from the CPU fan. Trace the fan wires running into the motherboard, and then unplug the connector at the end of the wires from its motherboard socket.

    • 2). Cut the wires at each side of the faulty fan adapter approximately an inch from the fan adapter, and then remove the fan adapter. Hold the two cut yellow wires and splice both wires, using an insulation displacement connector. Open the cover of the IDC and place each yellow wire along each cavity inside the IDC. Close the IDC cover and press the cover firmly to lock the IDC and embed the wires onto the copper pins inside.

    • 3). Hold the black wire running from the fan along with either one of the two black wires running to the motherboard. Splice the two black wires you're holding with an insulation displacement connector. Tape the ends of any remaining untapped wires running from the motherboard connector with electrical tape to insulate them. Coil the untapped wires neatly and set them aside.

    • 4). Plug the connector at the end of the wires back to its socket in the motherboard. Plug your computer to its power source, and then turn on the computer. Look at the fan to check if it is working. Turn off the computer and replace the CPU casing cover.
