How to Merge Partitions With GParted
- 1). Open the GParted program. Click the drive that you wish to work on from the upper right hand drop-down box. Click the partition that you wish to remove space from during the merge.
- 2). Click the "Partition" menu at the top of the window and click "Resize-Move" from the drop-down box. A new window opens showing you a visualization of your selected partition and the free space available.
- 3). Drag the arrow that's shown next to your hard drive space left or right to resize the partition. Resizing this will merge the empty space into your other partition. When finished click the "Resize" button.
- 4). Click the "Apply" button when prompted to confirm your changes. No changes will be made until you select this.
- 5). Wait for the operation to complete, which could take several minutes to several hours depending on the partition size.
- 6). Click the "Close" button once all operations are completed. GParted rescans your hard drives and shows a new visualization of your drive spaces. Click "Close Window" in the upper right-hand corner of GParted and exit out of the program.
- 7). Close all applications and programs and restart your computer. Allow your computer to scan your hard drive and check your file system upon reboot. Don't cancel the scan when given the option. Allow the scan to finish and reboot the computer.
