- 1). Turn off the computer and unplug all cables. Unscrew the "RAM" memory panel on the bottom of the laptop. The RAM memory panel contains a picture of a small computer chip next to, or directly on, the panel. Determine the number of empty memory slots available. For example, most laptops will have one open memory slot, meaning that one memory stick may be added to the laptop. Replace the panel.
- 2). Access the laptop manufacturer's website and purchase the desired amount of memory. Wait for the memory to arrive in the mail.
- 3). Install the memory by unplugging the cables, removing the RAM (memory) panel and inserting the memory stick(s) at a 45-degree angle. Be sure to install the chip label-side up; otherwise it will not properly set.
- 4). Replace the memory panel and cables, and turn on the computer. The laptop will automatically recognize the added RAM.
