How Do I Stop Programs From Opening on Start Up in Windows Vista?

- 1). Click on the Start button on the Windows taskbar to reveal the Start menu. Place the cursor in the box at the bottom labeled "Start Search" and type "system configuration." Click on the "System Configuration" link in the search results. Click the "Startup" tab to the front.
- 2). Scroll down the list of "Startup Items" in the left-hand column. If a check mark is in the box next to the item that you wish to remove, click in the box once to remove the check mark.
- 3). Click the "Apply" and "OK" buttons to close the System Configuration utility. Be prepared to restart Windows Vista.
