How to Tell if the Defrag Is Almost Done on Vista

- 1). Click "Start," "All Programs" and click on "Accessories."
- 2). Click "System Tools."
- 3). Click on "Disk Defragmenter."
- 4). Click your hard disk, and click "Analyze." The more fragmented files you have, the longer the process will take.
- 1). Note the time at which the defragmentation began.
- 2). Check the status bar after 15 minutes and make a note of the progress.
- 3). Track the progress at 15 minute intervals to project the rate of completion.
- 4). Watch the status bar's movements. When the bar has reached the far right-hand edge of the window, the defrag utility is almost done.
