How to Make Ubuntu Not Install Gnome

    • 1). Download one of the alternate CD installations for Ubuntu (see Resources).

    • 2). Burn the CD image to a CD with image-burning software. On a Windows 7 machine, this can be easily done by inserting a blank CD into a CD recorder. When the Windows dialog box pops up, select the "Burn Image to CD" option.

    • 3). Press the CD back into the drive, if it ejected. Reboot the computer.

    • 4). Select "Install a command-line system" from the Ubuntu installation menu.

    • 5). Follow the steps through the Ubuntu setup. The system will ask you your language preferences, timezone, username and a number of other features to customize the system. The system will alert you when it has been successfully installed.
