- 1). Examine the back cover of the iPhone. On the iPhone 3GS, the logo is very bright and prominently displays "3GS" in a small box. On the 3G version of the phone, the text is darker and just says "3G."
- 2). Check the product manual of the phone. The manual will list all of the technical components of the phone, including what model it is.
- 3). Attach the phone to a computer with iTunes installed. Once attached, the program will automatically boot and display information about the device. By default, the program will open with the "iPhone" panel open. At the top of the panel, the device's serial number is displayed.
- 4). Copy the device's serial number using the "Copy" function or by pressing "Control" and "C" with the text highlighted.
- 5). Visit Apple's official site to check what model the phone is by inputting its serial number (see Resources).
- 6). Input the serial number. The Apple website will display the information about the device, including if it is a 3G or 3GS model.
