    • The iPod touch device is part of the Apple iPod line of portable media players. Like other iPods in the line, it's capable of storing and playing the most widely used audio and image file formats in addition to video playback capabilities. Unlike other iPod models, the iPod touch offers a touch-based graphical user interface plus wireless access to the Apple iTunes and App stores.

    Dimensions

    • As of October 2010, the current fourth-generation model of the Apple iPod touch has a height of 4.4 inches, a width of 2.3 inches, a depth of 0.28 inches and a weight of 3.56 ounces. Models come with a storage capacity of either 8 gigabytes, 32 gigabytes or 64 gigabytes. It has a 3.5-inch widescreen display with a resolution of 960x640 pixels.

    Supported Audio Formats

    • The iPod touch supports the following audio file formats: Advanced Audio Coding (AAC), Protected AAC, High-Efficiency AAC, MP3, MP3 Variable Bit Rate (VBR), Audio Interchange File Format (AIFF), Waveform Audio File (WAV) and Apple Lossless. It also supports files from the digital audiobook provider Audible, including Audible Enhanced Audio, AAX and AAX+ file formats. iPod touch is capable of producing audio output within a range of 20Hz to 20,000Hz.

    Wireless Support

    • The iPod touch is a Bluetooth 2.1 + Enhanced Data Rate (EDR) and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n device. This means that it can access the Internet via a Wi-Fi network where available, and it can communicate with other Bluetooth devices such as PCs and handsfree headsets. The iPod touch also offers a maps-location based service that can provide you with your approximate location within a Wi-Fi network.

    Picture and Video Support

    • The iPod touch has cameras on both the front and back of the device. The rear camera is a high-definition video recorder, recording video at 720p resolution up to 30 frames per second, including audio. It supports still images of 0.7 megapixels (960x720 pixels). The front camera is capable of taking standard VGA-quality (about 0.3 megapixels or 640x380) pictures and video at 30 frames per second.

    Television and Video Support

    • The iPod touch supports H.264 (high-definition) video up to 720p at 30 frames per second, with stereo audio. The device supports MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 Mbps at 640x480 pixels, 30 frames per second with audio. Motion JPEG is supported up to 35 Mbps at 1280x720 pixels, 30 frames per second, with audio. Video file formats supported include: .mv4, .mp4, .mov and .avi.

    Input and Output Connectors

    • The iPod touch includes a 30-pin dock connector and a 3.5-mm minijack for headphones. The device also features a built-in speaker and microphone.

    Battery Specifications

    • The iPod touch contains a built-in, rechargeable lithium-ion battery offering up to 40 hours of music playback and 7 hours of video playback when fully charged. The device offers a two-hour "fast charge" option to charge the battery to 80 percent capacity. A full charge takes approximately four hours.
