    Storage Capacity

    • The fifth-generation iPod nano offers two choices of flash memory capacity: 8 GB and 16 GB. The 8 GB flash drive can store up to 2,000 songs using 128-kilobits-per-second Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) format, 7,000 photos and eight hours of video. The 16 GB version doubles the storage capacity with 4,000 songs, 14,000 pictures and 16 hours of video.

    Battery Life

    • Each fifth-generation iPod nano has a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that provides up to 24 hours of music playback time and five hours of video playback time when fully charged. The iPod nano can be charged using the USB cable that came with the device and takes up to three hours to fully charge. Alternatively, you can use the fast-charge mode, which charges up to 80 percent of the battery's capacity within 1 1/2 hours.

    System Specifications

    • The fifth-generation iPod nano is compatible with both Macintosh and Windows-based computers. Each computer must have at least one USB 2.0 port for battery charging and syncing purposes and the iTunes 9 program should be installed to manage media on the device. The oldest operating system for compatibility with Mac computers is the Mac OS X v10.4.11 operating system. For Windows-based PCs, Microsoft Windows XP is the oldest operating system compatible with iTunes.

    Size and Display

    • The fifth-generation iPod nano is 3.6 inches tall, 1.5 inches wide, 0.24 inches deep and weighs 1.28 ozs. The device's thin-film transistor screen measures 2.2-inches diagonally and displays images at a 240 by 376 pixel resolution at 204 pixels per inch.
