How to Configure an Ethernet Port

    Device Manager

    • 1). Click the "Windows" logo in the bottom-left corner of the desktop (also known as the "Start" button). Type "Device Manager" in the search box. Press "Enter" to open the "Device Manager" dialog window.

    • 2). Expand the "Network Adapters" category. Right-click on the Ethernet adapter. Select "Properties" from the menu, which opens another dialog box.

    • 3). Click the "General" tab. Click the "Change Settings" button at the bottom of the tab, if available. A new dialog box appears, providing a greater selection of "configuration" tabs for the Ethernet port. Click on and off each tab to review the available options and then make the necessary changes, as needed.

    Network Connections Folder

    • 1). Click the "Windows" logo. Type "View Network Connections" in the search box. Press "Enter" to open the "Network Connections" folder.

    • 2). Right-click on "Local Area Connection." Select "Properties" from the menu, which opens a dialog box.

    • 3). Click the "Networking" tab. Select the "Configure" button, if available, which opens a new dialog box. Click on and off the tabs to review the configuration options and make selections.
