Requirements for Microsoft Windows 98
- A computer processor, also called the Central Processing Unit (CPU), is where the instructions given by you for performing activities on the computer, like opening a file, reading the file, playing a song, are executed. Many processors are available, including the Intel Core 2 Duo, Intel Core 2 Extreme and the Intel Pentium series. Windows 98 requires a computer with a 486DX 66 megahertz (MHz) or faster processor.
- Random Access Memory (RAM) is the place in the computer where data currently in execution is stored. For example, when you open a file to read, it is copied from your computer hard disk to the RAM and stay their till the time the file is in use. Once you have finished editing and save the file, the changes are saved to your hard disk. Windows 98 requires a computer with a minimum of 16 megabytes (MB) of RAM.
- The hard disk is the place where all the files on your computer are permanently stored. Hard disk comes in different sizes of 8GB, 20GB, 40GB, 250 GB and 500 GB. A full install of Windows 98 on a FAT16 drive requires 225 MB of free hard disk space and on a FAT32 drive requires 175 MB.
- A floppy drive is the part of the computer that reads from and writes to the floppy disk. They store less data than CDs and flash drives. A 3.5 floppy can store up to 1.44 megabytes of data. Windows 98 requires one 3.5-inch high-density floppy disk drive.
- A computer monitor is the device used to display things like the files and documents stored on your computer. Types of monitors include liquid crystal risplay (LCD), cathode ray tube (CRT) and plasma monitors. Windows 98 requires a VGA or higher resolution monitor.
