The primary requirement to FaceTime with someone else who owns an iPhone, iPad or a Mac is to have their email address programmed into your iPad's contacts list. This tells FaceTime how to reach them and can be thought of as their FaceTime phone number.

On the right side of the screen is your contacts list, which you will use to pick out who to call.
