How to Repair Dell E172FPB Monitors With Blinking Power

    Check Cable Connections

    • 1). Power off the E172FPB monitor and unplug the AC power adapter cord. Reconnect the power cord and ensure the connection is tight and secure.

    • 2). Disconnect the monitor cable from the computer and the VGA out port on the rear of the E172FPB monitor. Reconnect the monitor cable to the video out port on the computer and the monitor. Ensure the connections are tight.

    • 3). Power on the monitor and the computer. Wait a few second to see if the monitor displays an image from the computer.

    Check the Computer Video Card

    • 1). Power off the computer and the E172FB monitor. Disconnect the monitor cable from the computer.

    • 2). Connect the monitor to a computer with a known good video card.

    • 3). Power on the computer and the E172FB monitor. If the monitor displays an image, then the original computer has a video-card related problem. Replace the video card or repair the computer as needed.

    Replace the Inverter

    • 1). Power off the computer and monitor. Lay the E172FB monitor face down on a soft towel or cloth to avoid scratching the LCD screen.

    • 2). Use the awl to remove the four rubber screw hole covers on the rear of the monitor. Remove the covers carefully, as you must reuse them later. Remove the screws from the holes with the Phillips screwdriver.

    • 3). Use the awl to separate the front and rear bezel pieces of the monitor case. Stand the monitor upright and gently separate the front and rear bezel pieces. Remove the front bezel and set it aside.

    • 4). Locate the inverter board of the E172FPB at the bottom of the monitor just below the LCD screen. Unplug the small wire harness on the left side of the inverter board from the main circuit board. Unplug the wire harness on the right side of the inverter that leads to the backlight bulb.

    • 5). Remove the two screws that secure the E172FPB’s inverter board at the bottom of the monitor. Remove the inverter and insert a new one in the track. Reinsert the screws you removed from the old inverter into the new one. Tighten the screws with the Phillips screwdriver.

    • 6). Reconnect the wiring harnesses on both sides of the inverter. Replace the front bezel piece to the monitor and snap it into place. Place the monitor face down on the towel, reinsert the retaining screws, and tighten them. Reinsert the rubber screw hole covers and push them into place.

    • 7). Reconnect the AC power cord and monitor cable. Connect the monitor to the computer. Power on the monitor first, then the computer.
