How to Repair Vista With a CD
- 1). Insert the Windows Vista installation disc that came with your computer into the optical drive. If an installation disc did not come with your computer, call the manufacturer and request one; most companies will give you an installation CD free if one was not provided with your computer.
- 2). Restart your computer.
- 3). Press any key when prompted to boot from a disc.
- 4). Click the drop-down arrow to the right of "Language to install" and click "English." Click "Next."
- 5). Click "Repair your computer" in the lower-left corner of the next screen with the Windows Vista logo on it. A list of operating systems on the computer will be generated. Click the Windows Vista operating system you want to repair and then click "Next." A "Recovery System Options" dialog box will appear.
- 6). Click "Startup Repair" in the list of options. The computer will restart as needed and, depending what problems are detected on your computer, dialog boxes may appear asking you to make choices to help the computer resolve your issue.
- 1). Repeat steps 1 through 5 in the previous section to arrive at the "Recovery System Options" dialog box.
- 2). Click "System Restore." The System Restore program window appears on the screen.
- 3). Click "Next" to verify that you understand System Restore does not affect any of your personal data; it will only restore system and program files to their settings as of the restore point you will select. A list of restore points will appear on the screen, defined by what program or system change caused the restore point to be created.
- 4). Select the restore point to restore the computer to and then click "Next." A screen listing the hard drives or partitions associated with the computer appears. Select the hard disk or partition you want the changes to apply to.
- 5). Select the primary hard drive Windows Vista is installed on and then click "Next."
- 6). Click "Finish" to verify the restore point and then click "Yes" to verify that you want to restore the computer.
- 7). Click "Restart" after a message appears saying the system has been restored. The system will restart and the old settings will be applied.
- 1). Repeat Steps 1 through 5 in Section 1 to arrive at the "Recovery System Options" dialog box. Connect any external device where the backup of your computer is located.
- 2). Click "Windows Complete PC Restore." A screen will appear displaying the most recent backup that was detected. To restore from this backup, click "Next" and proceed to step 3. To restore from a different backup, select "Restore from a different backup" and then click "Next." A list of other detected backups will be displayed. Select a backup and then click "Next."
- 3). Review the information association with the backup you've selected and then click "Finish." A message will appear on the screen saying any information on the computer will be erased and the computer will be restored from the backup. Select "I confirm that I want to erase all existing data and restore the backup" and then click "OK." The computer will begin restoring from the backup. The computer will automatically reboot when the restore process is finished.
