How to Swap 2V to 4V on a Mustang

    Removal

    • 1). Remove the nut that secures the carburetor linkage to the side of the carburetor with an open-end wrench then pull the linkage away from the carburetor.

    • 2). Squeeze the two prongs that secure the fuel inlet line's clamp to the end of the fuel line, where the line enters the fuel filter, with pliers then move the clamp away from the fuel filter.

    • 3). Pull the fuel line off of the carburetor.

    • 4). Remove the four nuts that surround the base of the carburetor with the open-end wrench then lift the carburetor off of the engine.

    • 5). Open the drain plug on the bottom of the engine-side of the radiator with a wrench to drain the radiator then close the plug. Position a catch pan large enough to contain approximately 2 gallons of fluid underneath the drain plug before unplugging it.

    • 6). Loosen the clamp that secures the heater hose to the top of the intake manifold with a nut driver wrench then pull the hose off of the manifold.

    • 7). Loosen the clamps that secure the water pump hose and the top radiator hose to the thermostat housing with a nut driver wrench then pull the hoses off of the housing.

    • 8). Remove the two bolts that secure the thermostat housing to the front of the intake manifold with a socket wrench then pull the housing off of the manifold, followed by the thermostat.

    • 9). Insert the thermostat into position within the four-barrel intake manifold.

    • 10

Apply water-resistant sealer to a new thermostat gasket then press the gasket over the thermostat.

    • 11

Press the thermostat housing onto the thermostat gasket then tighten the housing's two bolts with the socket wrench.

    • 12

Remove the intake manifold's retaining bolts with the wrench and lift the manifold off of the engine.

    Installation

    • 1). Apply water-resistant sealer to the new intake manifold gaskets and position the gaskets onto the engine.

    • 2). Lower the four-barrel intake manifold onto the engine and install the manifold's retaining bolts with the wrench.

    • 3). Push the heater hose onto its fitting on the intake manifold and tighten its clamp.

    • 4). Push the water pump and top radiator hoses onto their fittings on the thermostat housing and tighten their clamps.

    • 5). Slide a new four-barrel carburetor gasket over the four carburetor studs and onto the manifold.

    • 6). Lower the carburetor onto its gasket and install the carburetor's four retaining nuts.

    • 7). Press the fuel inlet line onto the carburetor and slide its clamp onto the end of the line with pliers.

    • 8). Insert the tip of the carburetor linkage onto the bracket on the side of the carburetor then secure the linkage in place with its nut.

    • 9). Fill the radiator with fresh antifreeze.
