Microsoft Internet Explorer

• 1). Navigate to a folder containing a GIF file, right-click the GIF file's icon and select "Properties."

• 3). Single-click the "Microsoft Internet Explorer" item. If you do not see this option, click the "Browse" button, navigate to the "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer" folder and then double-click the "iexplore" icon.
  
  
• 4). Check the box labeled "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file," and then click "OK" to confirm the change. When you double-click the icon of any GIF file, the file will now open in an Internet Explorer browser window.

Microsoft Windows Live Photo Gallery

• 3). Single-click the "Windows Live Photo Gallery" item. If you do not see this option, click the "Browse" button, navigate to the "C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Photo Gallery" folder and then double-click the "WLXPhotoGallery" icon.
  
  
• 4). Check the box labeled "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file," and then click "OK" to confirm the change. When you double-click the icon of any GIF file, the file will now open in Microsoft Windows Live Photo Gallery.
