How to Clean Your PC With Air

    • 1). Shake up the can of compressed air and place the small extension straw onto air filter. This gives you better control and allows you to stand away from the computer. Holding the compressed air too close can actually result in liquid that can damage the electronics spraying onto the computer.

    • 2). Position the straw at an angle, aiming across the spaces in between the PC's keyboard. It is easy for crumbles of food and hair to fall between the cracks of the keys. Use short bursts from the compressed air can to force this out.

    • 3). Blow out the cooling vents along the sides of the CPU (the central processing unit, or computer tower). You do not want to block these vents because they help keep the computer cool. Pull out whatever dust you can, and then clean the rest off with the air can.

    • 4). Open the CD/DVD drives of the computer and blow some air into the computer. This can remove dust and debris stuck to the laser and the reading lens. Debris on these two areas can prevent the disc from being read properly.

    • 5). Power down the computer, and remove all of the cables connected to the computer. Take a Phillips screwdriver and remove the screws from the back of the case, and remove it. Use your compressed air can to blow away any dust or debris inside your computer. This includes dusting off your motherboard, processor and random access memory, or RAM. (All the main components of the computer connect to the motherboard.) Make sure the entire motherboard is dust-free. Place the case back onto the computer, reattach the screws and plug the cables back in.
