How to Put Music on an iPod With LimeWire Without Using iTunes

    • 1). Enable the iPod as a storage device if you have not already done so. Open iTunes and select "Enable as storage disk" from the iPod's "Summary" tab. Doing so preemptively allows you to transfer music onto the iPod from LimeWire without having to use iTunes.

    • 2). Install a LimeWire client onto your computer if you have not already done so. Download the installation package from the LimeWire website (See Resources).

    • 3). Use the LimeWire client to download legal MP3 files. Enter your desired song's title, album or artist into the LimeWire client's search bar. Double-click on your desired search list result to download it.

    • 4). Insert the USB end of the adapter into an available port on your computer. Insert the larger end of the iPod USB adapter into the iPod port, which is usually on the bottom of the device.

    • 5). Double-click the iPod's device icon in your file manager ("Finder" on Macs and "My Computer" on PCs) to open its file folder window.

    • 6). Open a new, separate file manager window. Find and open your LimeWire file folder in this second window.

    • 7). Drag and drop the music you wish to put onto the iPod from the LimeWire file folder into the device's file folder window.

    • 8). Right-click the iPod's device icon and select "Eject" from the drop-down menu to safely remove the iPod from your computer. You may now transport the LimeWire music to another device, such as a computer, or preserve it on the iPod storage disk for safe keeping.
