How to Edit a CVS File

    • 1). Open a word processing application such as Windows Notepad. If you cannot locate this program easily, click the "Start" button. Click "All Programs," "Accessories" and "Notepad." The Notepad window appears.

    • 2). Choose the "File" menu and click "Open" to display a standard "Open" dialog box.

    • 3). Navigate to the CSV files that you want to use. Double-click the file to load it into the program.

    • 4). Edit the file as needed. Make sure that each line has the same number of commas as every other line, especially if you remove information or add a new line. If you want to remove field information, delete the appropriate text between commas, but do not delete the commas.

    • 5). Click "Save As" from the "File" menu to display the "Save As" dialog box. Enter a new name in the "File Name" box using the form "<name>.CSV," where <name> is your choice of name and CSV indicates that the file is a comma-separated file. Make sure that the "Save As Type" drop-down shows "Text Documents" or TXT.

    • 6). Click "Save" to save the edited CSV file.
