Microsoft Stores
Microsoft Stores are physical locations offering training, personal shopping, hardware, software, local deals, and more. Here's a summary of products and services offered and how to connect directly to one near you.
The software company also offers its online Microsoft Store.
A New Distribution Strategy
While other software entities have had physical stores for some time, the Apple Stores for example, Microsoft's new retail stores represent a new distribution strategy.
This is likely due to the additional emphasis Microsoft has been placing on hardware, such as its new Surface tablets.
But Microsoft has loosened its exclusivity of these stores as a distribution outlet. For example, during the 2012 holiday buying season, Microsoft will also sell its Surface RT at additional, non-Microsoft retail stores.
Finding a Location Near You
Microsoft Stores are typically located in malls or shopping centers.
Connect here to search for a location's contact information, map directions, store hours, appointments, and local promotions or coupons: Microsoft Physical Store Locations.
Holiday Stores
Keep in mind that some stores listed may be temporary Holiday Stores. While Microsoft may make some of these permanent after the holiday season, knowing it may not be there post-holidays may help you plan your hardware or software purchasing decisions.
Hardware and Software
You can purchase Microsoft hardware and Microsoft software at your local Microsoft Store.
I would suggest always checking the online Microsoft Store as well before deciding where to make your final purchase, though the deals are likely to be similar.
One reason to do this is to get some preliminary research out of the way by chatting with an Online Microsoft Store Answer Tech.
Training
Training events or classes are offered at each location, but the calendar is customized by each individual store so check the location's site for more information (see above). Many Microsoft Stores even offer trainings in a theater atmosphere.
You can also sign up for personal training sessions. This is a great solution for anyone who experiences anxiety learning in a larger group or who just prefers a one-on-one interchange. When I checked up on this service, I noticed you are also allowed to bring someone else to your session if you prefer.
Deals and In-Store Events
Each Microsoft location offers its own offers and promotional events which are also featured on the location website's calendar. While most Microsoft deals are the same across the board, you may be able to find local deals or learning opportunities.
Personal Shopping
Interested in avoiding the shopping process as much as possible? Microsoft Stores offer a personal shopping service. While this is a wonderful convenience, be prepared to communicate what you're looking for. On-site Microsoft representatives will of course help you find out what you are looking for if you are not sure and can expedite your search.
