How to Route a Serpentine Belt on a 1995 Camaro V6

    • 1). Pop the hood of the car. Then jack the car up slightly. The 1995 Camaro sits low to the ground so you will need to jack the front up to be able to route the belt across the crankshaft pulley and the air conditioner compressor pulley. Jack the front of the car just high enough for you to be able to crawl under the front of the Camaro.

    • 2). Put the jack stands behind each tire. There is a designated groove behind each tire that the jack stands can sit under to hold the weight of the car. Lower the jack onto the jack stands.

    • 3). Crawl under the front part of the engine and route the serpentine belt around the crankshaft pulley. The crankshaft pulley is the big pulley on the bottom of the engine in the center.

    • 4). Take the serpentine belt, which is running on the bottom of the crankshaft pulley, and route it over to the air conditioner pulley. The air conditioner pulley is directly to the right of the crankshaft pulley on the bottom. Route the belt completely around the air conditioner pulley.

    • 5). Route the serpentine belt upward to the water pump pulley. The bottom of the serpentine belt should be routed to the left-hand side of the water pump pulley so that the back of the belt is against the water pump pulley.

    • 6). With the backside of the belt running across the left-hand side of the water pump pulley, pull the belt up and around the alternator pulley, which is straight above the water pump pulley. Route the belt so that the grooves are in the alternator pulley.

    • 7). Route the serpentine belt straight across to the power steering pulley. Bring the belt across the power steering pulley and around the pulley so that the belt grooves are inside the power steering pulley grooves.

    • 8). Bring the belt around the power steering pulley and then downward and around the top of the belt tensioner. The back side of the belt goes onto the top of the belt tensioner pulley. When you get to this point, you will need to relieve the tension off the belt tensioner to get the belt to go on.

    • 9). Put the ratchet and the the 13mm socket on the bolt head in the center of the belt tensioner. Turn the tensioner clockwise to relieve the tension on the belt tensioner. Slide the bottom side of the serpentine belt across the top of the belt tensioner. Slack off of the belt tensioner to tighten up the serpentine belt across the pulleys.

Inspect the serpentine belt to make sure it is routed across all of the pulleys exactly as explained above.

1- Under the crank shaft pulley
2- Under and over the right-hand side of the air conditioner pulley.
3- Upward and around the left-hand side of the water pump pulley so that the backside of the belt is against the pulley.
4- Upward and completely around the right-hand side of the alternator pulley so that the belt grooves are inside the pulley grooves.
5- Straight across to the power steering pulley. Then completely around the power steering pulley.
6- Downward from the power steering pulley to the belt tensioner.

Crank the engine and inspect the belt while the engine is running. Make sure the belt is seated into all of the pulleys and that the belt is evenly centered under the belt tensioner pulley.

Turn the car off. Jack the car up and remove the jack stands. Lower the car.
