How to Do a Destructive Restore on Windows XP
- 1). Place the Windows XP in the drive of your PC and reboot your PC. After your PC has been rebooted, you will see a message that states "Press any key to boot from CD..."
- 2). Press any key on your keyboard to continue. You will see a set-up screen, indicating that setup is inspecting your hardware configuration. Next, you will see the Windows XP set-up screen.
- 3). Press "Enter" on your keyboard to allow the setup to continue. When you see the Windows XP license agreement screen, press "F8" to accept it and continue. The setup will continue and you will be brought to the next screen that allows you to choose the type of repair you would like to perform. Your install is listed and highlighted, press "r" on your keyboard to allow setup to continue and repair your install. Setup will continue copying files and reboot your PC automatically.
- 4). Allow your PC to restart. Once it has restarted, the CD will be recognized and you will be asked to press any key to continue. Press any key on your keyboard. Windows will continue the repair process. Once it has completed, your PC will restart automatically. Once your PC has restarted, your resolution will be adjusted and you will be asked to press "OK" to accept the changes. Your Windows welcome screen will be displayed. Your PC should now function properly.
