How to Replace the Shaft on Nike VR Irons

    • 1). Put on your protective gloves and leave them on for the entirety of this procedure.

    • 2). Heat the hosel joint of the club with your heating gun. Be sure to dispense heat evenly around the hosel and don't be alarmed if small amounts of white smoke begin to form. This is the old epoxy melting.

    • 3). Remove the head from the shaft once the old epoxy has fully melted. Do not twist the head off, lest you damage the inner walls of the hosel and the tip of the old shaft. This is especially important if you hope to ever use the old shaft again. If the head does not easily pull from the shaft, continue heating.

    • 4). Set the club head aside and allow it to cool.

    • 5). Fit a replacement ferrule, the small metal or rubber ring that strengthens the bond between the shaft and the club head, over the tip of the replacement shaft. You can sometimes use the old ferrule if it is still in good condition, but it is always advised to have a spare.

    • 6). Clean out the epoxy residue inside the hosel joint with a small piece of rolled sandpaper once the joint has completely cooled.

    • 7). Drip epoxy into the hosel and fit it onto the tip of the new shaft. Always fit the head onto the shaft instead of the other way around to reduce the amount of physical effort required to bond the two parts together.

    • 8). Press the head down until the tip of the shaft is flush against the base of the hosel, and again, do not twist. Once the head and shaft are firmly together, make sure the ferrule is flush against the mouth of the hosel.

    • 9). Allow the club to set for at least 24 hours before swinging.
