How to Set up a Printer & a Computer

    Hooking up the Computer

    • 1). Remove all of the cables and components for the computer from their box if necessary.
      Set the tower close to where you wish to set up the PC, but keep it in the open so it will be easier to reach the cables in the back.

      Plug the power cord into the port on the back of the case and into the wall outlet. Connect the keyboard and mouse via USB or PS/2. The USB ports are rectangular metal slots. PS/2 slots are purple and green ports on the back of the PC.

    • 3). Position the monitor where you'd like it placed permanently. Connect the VGA or DVI cable to the back of the monitor. Connect the other end to the appropriate connector on the back of the PC tower.

    • 4). Turn on the PC. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your operating system.

    Setting up the Printer

    • 1). Remove the printer and other attachments from the box. Attach any separated parts to the printer by following the quick-start guide included with the printer.

      Attach the data connector (USB or parallel cable, depending on your printer) to the back of the printer and the other end to the back of the PC.

    • 3). Place the printer where you plan to keep it and plug the printer into a power outlet.

      Insert the CD that came with the printer into the computer tower's optical drive. Allow the setup to open and follow the on-screen instructions to complete printer installation.

    • 5). Restart the computer to finalize the new installation.
