HP Pavilion Z E4900 Disassembly Instructions
- 1). Turn the HP Pavilion ze4900 off and unplug any cables or devices attached to the laptop.
- 2). Turn the ze4900 laptop upside down and position it so the front end of the laptop is closest to you.
- 3). Push and hold the battery-lock latch, located in the lower-left corner, up and hold it.
- 4). Slide the battery, located along the lower-left edge of the laptop, out of the battery bay and release the battery-lock latch.
- 5). Unscrew and remove the two screws in the top corners of the memory module cover, located in the lower-middle section of the laptop, then lift and remove the memory module cover.
- 6). Push the clips on each side of the memory module out, away from the memory module. The module will tilt upward at a 45-degree angle. Lift and remove the memory module.
- 7). Pull out the rubber screw covers protecting the screws that connect the hard drive to the laptop. The screw covers are located directly below the lower edges of the memory module bay.
- 8). Remove the two screws beneath the covers.
- 9). Slide the hard drive, located along the edge of the laptop directly beneath the screws, out of the laptop.

Turn the laptop right-side up and rotate it so the back of the laptop is closest to you, then remove the upper-most screw in the middle of each hinge. - 11
Rotate the laptop so the front is closest to you and open the laptop monitor. - 12
Press the "f3" key down and slide a flathead screwdriver in the release tab behind the key. Press the screwdriver handle down to pry up the keyboard cover. - 13
Repeat this process for the "f8," "f11," and "home" keys, then lift and remove the keyboard cover. - 14
Remove the screws above the "A," "J," and ";" keys, and also below the key in the upper-right corner. - 15
Lift up the back part of the keyboard and place it face down in front of the mouse touch pad. - 16
Remove the ribbon cable that connects the keyboard to the laptop from its connection point just above the mouse touch pad, then lift and remove the keyboard. - 17
Remove the two screws about 4 inches inside of the upper-right edge. - 18
Place the flathead screwdriver in the small holes behind where the screws were and push the optical drive until it pokes out of the back-right edge of the laptop, then remove the optical drive.
