How to Disable Scandisk on Startup in XP

    • 1). Launch the registry by clicking the Windows "Start" button, clicking "Run, typing "regedit" (without quotes) in the open box, and then pressing "Enter." You should see folders in the left pane.

    • 2). Click the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" folder to expand it, and then expand the "SYSTEM" folder. Expand the "CurrentControlSet" folder, expand the "Control" folder and then expand the "Session Manager" folder. Change the BootExecute entry to:
      autocheck autochk *

    • 3). Click the "File" menu and click "Exit" to close the registry. Restart your computer. The ScanDisk tool no longer runs when Windows resumes.
