How to Enable Logical Block Addressing

    Verify That XP SP 1 Or Later Is Installed

    • 1). Right-click "My Computer."

    • 2). Click "Properties."

    • 3). Go to the "General" tab and under "System," look for "Service Pack 1" or a later version. If a service pack is not installed, go to the Microsoft website (see Resources) to obtain the most recent Service Pack for Windows XP. Follow the download and installation instructions.

    Enable LBA on Original Release Versions of Windows XP

    • 1). Click "Start," then click "Run" and type "regedit".

    • 2). Find the path "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Atapi\Parameters\ ."

    • 3). Select "New DWORD Value" from the Edit menu.

    • 4). Type "EnableBigLba" and press "Enter."

    • 5). Double-click "EnableBigLba" and set it to "1."

    • 6). Click "OK" and close the Registry Editor.

    • 7). Restart the computer.
