How to Upgrade to Windows 2008

    • 1). Insert the Windows Server 2008 install DVD into your DVD drive.

    • 2). Click "Install Now" in the pop-up window.

    • 3). Click "Go Online to Get the Latest Updates for Installation" to check for updates, or skip this step and check for updates at a later time. Microsoft suggests updating at the time of installation.

    • 4). Enter your product key code in the "Product key" box, then click "Next." The product key code is on the packaging.

    • 5). Choose "Full Version" from the selection of of installation types, then click "Next."

    • 6). Read the "Microsoft Software License Terms," place a check in the "I accept the license terms" box and click "Next" to continue.

    • 7). Choose "Custom (Advanced)" from the "Which type of installation do you want?" window.

    • 8). Choose a hard disk you want to install to on the "Where do you want to install Windows?" menu.

    • 9). Click "Next" to initiate the installation. The process runs without interaction for about 20 minutes.

      Press "Ctrl," "Alt" and "Del" upon prompting to log on to Windows 2008.

      Click "Other User."

      Type "administrator" in the text box and click "Enter."

      Click "OK" when prompted by "The user's password must be changed before logging on for the first time."

      Enter and confirm a password containing at least seven characters, then click the arrow icon.

      Finish the upgrade and confirm the password by clicking "OK."
