- 1). Insert the hook point of a jig into the shiner's mouth. Push the hook into the minnow's throat. Press the shiner down on the hook so the point of the hook emerges from the top of the minnow's head, right behind its eyes.
- 2). Insert the hook just behind the shiner's dorsal fin when fishing it beneath a bobber. Insert the hook into the minnow's back about 1/8 of an inch from the top. Push the hook point through the shiner and out the other side.
- 3). Drift or troll with the shiner hooked through the mouth or tail. Push the point of the hook through the bottom of the mouth and out the top, just behind its lips. To hook the shiner in the tail, push the hook through its body just in front of the tail.
