Herringbone Beading Instructions

    • 1). Cut a comfortable length of beading thread and thread it onto a beading needle. Pick up a stop bead and slide it to within 6 inches of the end of the thread. Pass the thread back through the bead to hold it in place.

    • 2). Pick up two beads and slide them to the stop bead. Pass the thread through both beads in the same direction as the first pass. Arrange the two beads side by side with the holes facing up and the thread coming out of the top of the second bead. Pull the slack out of the thread.

    • 3). Pick up one bead and arrange it side by side with previous bead. Pass the thread clockwise up through the previous bead and down through the bead you picked up. Pick up one bead, arrange it as before and pass the thread counter clockwise down through the previous bead and up through the one you just added.

    • 4). Repeat, alternating the thread circles clockwise and counterclockwise until you have an even number of beads and the piece is the width that you prefer.

    • 5). Pick up two beads and, working toward the start bead, skip one bead, pass the thread down through one bead and up through the next. Repeat to the end. To end the row, pick up two beads, pass the thread under the thread bar between the last two beads in the previous row and up through the last bead you added.

    • 6). Repeat until the project is the length you want it. Weave back through the last row the same way you made the first row to close the last pairs of beads and stabilize the end.
