How to Troubleshoot an iTouch That Powers on & Off
- 1). Check your apps to find out if you have any timers set. For example, the "Clock" app contains both a stop watch and an alarm that will automatically turn on your device if set. Pay attention to any apps that may contain timers, like digital alarms and daily planners.
- 2). Reset your iPod Touch. An occasional reset can cure a variety of glitches, including intermittent powering issues. Click and hold "Home" and "Sleep" (on the front and the top of your iPod respectively) until the gray Apple icon appears on your screen.
- 3). Connect your iPod Touch to your computer and install the latest software. Use the iPod USB cable to connect your device to your computer's USB port (which features an image of a three-pointed trident) and then open the iTunes software. In the left column, click the "iPod" heading and finally click the "Check for Update" button. If iTunes detects an available update, click the "Update" button.
- 4). Restore your iPod. For functional glitches with absolutely no other solution, Apple recommends connecting your iTouch to your computer, clicking the "iPod" icon in iTunes and clicking the "Restore" button, which erases the entire hard drive and returns the device to its factory settings. This is especially important if you have jailbroken your iPod Touch and have suffered functional problems as a result. After restoring, you will need to re-sync your music and other media to the iTouch.
