How to Install a DVD on an HP Pavilion DV5
- 1). Remove any discs from the CD/DVD drive, if possible. Turn off your dv5 computer and unplug the external power supply.
- 2). Turn the computer over with the front edge facing you. Slide the battery release latch to the left as you lift the front edge of the battery and lift it out of its bay.
- 3). Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the optical drive screw from the bottom of the computer case. The screw is located along the front edge of the computer about 3 inches from the left edge.
- 4). Insert a straightened paper clip into the optical drive ejection hole on the drive door to pop the tray out of the bay. Grasp the tray and pull the optical drive out of the bay.
- 5). Remove the two screws from the edge of the optical drive bracket and remove the bracket from the drive.
- 6). Install the bracket on the new CD/DVD drive.
- 7). Slide the drive into the bay.
- 8). Replace the optical drive retainer screw. Replace the battery and plug in the AC power adapter.
- 9). Boot the computer and insert the installation disc that came with the drive to install any necessary drivers and utility programs.
