How to Test Vista Speed

    Windows Experience Index

    • 1). Click the "Start" button. Right-click on "Computer" and click "Properties."

    • 2). Click "Windows Experience Index."

    • 3). Click "Update my score." The Windows Experience Index test begins. You may see black bars or flickering on your screen; allow a few minutes for the test to complete.

    • 4). Examine your score after the test is finished. Your computer's final Windows Experience Index score is based on the component of your system that performed most poorly, with the reasoning that the poorest-performing part of your system limits the performance of everything else. Microsoft recommends a score of at least 3.0 in order for your computer to use the Windows Aero graphical user interface.
