How to Load XP on a Clean Computer
- 1). Power on the computer by pushing the power button. The computer will begin to boot up and then tell you there is no operating system, but it will allow you to insert a disk.
- 2). Open your CD or DVD drive, and insert your Windows XP operating disk. Close the drive, and power down your computer by holding the power button in for 10 seconds.
- 3). Re-power up your computer and press the key that will open your boot menu immediately when the computer turns on. The specific key will vary depending on your computer's manufacturer. It is frequently F10 or F12.
- 4). Select "Boot from CD" in the boot menu. Press any key to continue when prompted. This will boot your computer from your Windows XP disk.
- 5). Press "Enter" after setup has finished loading all the files when the first screen comes up. It will be a blue screen.
- 6). Read the end-user license agreement (EULA), and press F8 to accept and continue.
- 7). Select a partition to install Windows XP on. With a clean computer, it should be C and should be the only partition available. If no partition exists, select "unallocated space."
- 8). Press "Esc" to install a fresh copy of Windows XP on the selected partition.
- 9). Press "Enter" to begin installing XP after setup creates the install partition, which will show up in the setup screen as roughly 8 MB. Make sure you still have the C partition selected.
