How to RP Fight
- 1). Stay in character. RP fights are between two or more parties and are purely for the enjoyment of the players. You should take care not to break character or use "out of character" knowledge. For example, if you know "out of character" that the character you are fighting has a bum knee, you should not take advantage of that fact in the fight scene because your character doesn't know that.
- 2). Keep it short. Fight scenes should be fast and frantic. Long, drawn-out posts tend to slow the action and make it difficult to keep the energy up. Also, never post more than one or two "moves" at a time, or your opponent may not be able to keep up.
- 3). Don't God Mode. Your character isn't perfect, and you shouldn't play him as such. He's going to slip up. He's going to make mistakes. He's not going to be a god of combat, able to parry bullets and breathe fire. Make sure that, as you fight, you keep your character's abilities firmly in mind. You may want him to win, but if you take a step back and are honest with yourself, maybe he really CAN'T duck that ax flying toward his head.
- 4). Detail your techniques. A good description of what your character is doing and where exactly she is punching will allow your opponent better opportunity to come up with counters, or understand what exactly is happening in the fight.
- 5). Have fun. It's a game. Don't invest too much of yourself in the fight. You'll get far more enjoyment out of the writing if you approach it with an "I'm just here to have fun" attitude, rather than a "I'm here to dominate and win" attitude.
