How to Make Tissue Cherries

    • 1). Cut or tear red tissue paper into pieces about an inch wide and 3 inches long.

    • 2). Blow up the balloon and tie it.

    • 3). Attach the balloon knot to an ornament hanger. Be careful not to pierce the balloon.

    • 4). Coat the surface of the balloon with petroleum jelly. The jelly keeps the tissue paper in place while you seal it and allows the balloon to release from the form later.

    • 5). Press a piece of tissue paper onto the balloon.

    • 6). Cover the tissue paper with an even coat of decoupage medium.

    • 7). Overlap the first piece of tissue paper with another piece of tissue paper and coat it with decoupage medium. Continue adding and coating tissue paper until the entire balloon is covered, including around but not over the balloon knot.

    • 8). Suspend a hanger in a doorway and hang the tissue paper-covered balloon on the hanger to dry overnight.

    • 9). Pierce the balloon with a pin and pull the balloon out of the hole in the top of the balloon.

    • 10

Coil the tip of a brown pipe cleaner three times around a pencil. Pull the pencil out, leaving the coil.

    • 11

Insert the tip of the coil into the hole in the tissue paper cherry and twist the pipe cleaner to screw it into the cherry.

    • 12

Cover the hole with another piece of tissue paper around the pipe cleaner and coat it with decoupage medium.

    • 13

Allow the medium to dry before shaping the pipe cleaner stem or hanging the cherry.
